February 4th:

  • If not done, finish and turn in assignment 011 - Q2 Keyboarding Speed Tests on Google Classroom
  • If done with assignment 011 (Q2 Speed Tests), lessons in Mavis Beacon, with cover, until timer sounds.
  • Sign in to Google Classroom and add a Google Site post about Bitsbox in the 3rd Quarter and turn in (assignment 010) in Google Classroom:
    • Include what you did to create apps in Bitsbox.
    • Download a screenshot of your FAVORITE app (or apps, if you have more than one) and add it to the page.
    • Get the link for your app and link the screenshot to your actual app.
    • Include how you felt about coding this way, using actual code rather than dragging blocks and why. Was it easier or more difficult than block-based coding? Why? What kind of app would you like to be able to create if you could make anything?

January 28th:

  • Lessons in Mavis Beacon, with cover, until timer sounds

    • Finish and turn in assignment 009, if you have not done so. Make sure to check my comments and include the fixes for anything I have identified before you turn in your post.
    • Check my comments on assignments 007 and 009. Fix any problems that I have identified. Add a private comment (you must open the assignment to do this) if you have fixed anything letting me know that you have done so or your work will not be re-graded.
  • Lessons in Mavis Beacon for 10 minutes
  • Create apps using Bitsbox - Make sure to Sign In so your work is saved.

January 11th & 14th:

January 4th - 7th:

  • Sign in to Google Classroom and add and turn in a Google Site post for the Hour of Code Scratch Debugging (assignment 009). This post should include:
    • A written explanation of what you and your partner did for this assignment. Make sure to include where you debugged the code which was in Scratch (and a text link to the Scratch website which is at http://scratch.mit.edu). Also include how you documented your fixes which was using Google Slides but provide details of what you did.
    • Your Debugging Presentation - use Insert / Drive / Presentation (in the toolbar on your screen) to find this. You may optionally include a picture of the "bugs" drawn on the board, if you wish - use Insert / Drive / Image (in the toolbar on your screen) to find this.
    • A reflection on this assignment which should include which was the easiest Debug-It for you and your partner to solve and which was the most difficult and/or which took the longest. Include why you think you found them easy and/or difficult or why you think they took the longest. Also include, how you felt about the assignment and why. This could include how you felt about working with a partner on this.
  • If done, complete your Pioneer/Innovator of Computing research
  • Lessons in Mavis Beacon

  • Sign in to Google Classroom and work on assignment 008:
    • Use the Google Doc provided for your research:
      • You must use MLA Formatting for this document. You probably should make sure the font and spacing are correct on the entire document right at the end before you turn it in.
      • Title should be the full name of your Pioneer/Innovator of Computing
      • You are required to have MLA formatted footnotes for your sources by using the Cite option in the Research tool
      • You are required to have a Works Cited page - use Easy Bib for this and make sure you fill in any missing information
      • You must use at least 3 different sources of information - 1 of the sources can be for your photo
      • Make sure to include all of the required information in your document. Do not copy and paste information or just re-type exactly what you find on a website (other than names and dates) - that is plagiarism!
      • You should spend most of your time figuring out "why" your person is a computing pioneer or innovator. This is the most important part and you should understand what they have done for computing.
      • Include a picture of your person - preferably in landscape so it will fit nicely on a trading card

      • Edit your About Page on your Google Site to reflect you NOW
      • Go to Manage Site (under gear) and make sure that Site Categories is stm2018 - this should NOT be the title of your site!!
      • Edit your 6th Grade page (do not add a new post - just edit the page) and add a paragraph of your hopes and dreams for the year (not just about Computer Class): what do you hope will happen this year, what do you most want to learn, etc. Make sure that someone who just visits your site would understand what this paragraph is.
      • Turn in assignment 005 in Google Classroom by ADDing a link to your 6th Grade page and then clicking on Turn In
    • If you have finished assignment 005, you may edit the look & feel of your site. Ciick on the Gear at the top of a page on your site, select Manage Site and then go to the Themes, Colors, and Fonts section.
    • Assignment 007 in Google Classroom:
      • Go to your 6th Grade/Quarter 1 page and add a new post for your Self-Portrait & Peanuts Avatar
      • This post needs to include the following:
        • Information about how your created your avatar including the name of the program you used - Paint.NET (it must be spelled this way!).
        • Your best hint or tip about Paint.NET
        • Your self-portrait - Use Insert / Image to add this into the post
        • Information about how you created your Peanuts avatar on the Peanutize Me site. This needs to include a text link to the site!
        • Your downloaded Peanuts Profile Picture - Use Insert / Image to add this into the post.
        • A short reflection on this assignment including what you liked and/or didn't like about it and why. Remember, "it was easy" or "it was fun" is NOT valid as a why.

November 5th:

  • Whole Class: Google Sites Reminders & Tips
  • Finish Assignment 007, if not done - see November 2nd
  • Google Sites:

    • Complete assignment 007 - Q1 Keyboarding Speed Tests

    • NO FLOATING HEADS.
    • Save your self-portrait as 6th-YourName-Portrait in your folder (ask how to create this when you save!) as a PDN image.
    • If you would like a template, you can download one here ; make sure you save this in your folder. Add a new layer to draw your features and then erase guidelines from the template
  • Turn in your Self-Portrait (Assignment #004) in Google Classroom
  • Create Peanuts avatar & download into your folder (Profile Picture) as 6th-Name-Peanuts

      • How to find additional information that should be included: Authors, Dates, Publishers, etc.
      • Adding your Bibliography page
      • If you have comments/suggestions from Mrs. H, read these and correct
    • Continue working on any assignments that are NOT done in your 6th Grade Computer class
